Any tarot card readers out there?

I know, I know, not usually my thing (I'm supposed to be trained in science and all)...but I did this online tarot reading and have kind of freaked myself out. Here are the cards I drew. The first one is "the opportunity," the second one "the challenge," and the third one "the resolution." I will let you guess what the overarching question was I had in mind when I drew the cards (hint, it wasn't just about IVF #5, but was more far reaching...). Based on my interpretation, things are not looking good (something in my life is dying? Like what, my hope?!). But what do you think?

Mo, step away from the cards!! This was not a good idea while under the influence of powerful hormones! Back to the dissertation with me.

Opportunity Card
Temperance: Combining opposites
You have the opportunity to find the serenity of the middle way between polarities. You are ready to embrace the different parts of your personality, both light and shadow, that combine to make your own unique self. Your inner, spiritual life harmonizes with your life in the workaday world. You have discovered that your whole life is a work of art. You may be in need of healing on a spiritual or physical level, and the Winged One — a descendant of the ancient Bird Goddesses — is here to facilitate that for you. She may also aid you as you move into the role of healer yourself.

Challenge Card
Death: Dying and being born
You are being challenged to accept the fact that something in your life is dying and something else is nearing its time to be born. Take the time that you need to grieve for that which is dying, whether it is a cherished dream, a relationship or a belief system. Don't rush the process or deny all your turbulent feelings. Death isn't pretty; it hurts. It's painful. Whatever dies, is dead, and it will never return again in the same form. But just as the Dark Moon gives way to the New, and Winter gives way to Spring, Rebirth will surely follow Death. When you are ready to let go of grief, you will find yourself emptied out and clean, and ready for the next stage of your journey.

Resolution Card
The Tree: Letting go
Resolution comes with letting go. You are no longer in charge of your life. You must surrender to the flow. It isn't a time to resist, for everything is out of your control. Give it up. Your world may feel like it's been turned upside down. You can fight this reversal — you can go into it kicking and screaming — or you can surrender with grace and take it as an opportunity to see your life from a different perspective. It is a time to take no action, other than meditation and prayer. Learn to be still. During this time of suspension and waiting, you may discover within yourself the gifts of inspiration, enlightenment and unconditional love.

  1. Wow. I am like you - I usually look to the logical, scientific explanation of things. But wow. I think it is good - let's look at the death card as the end of you and Will living child free - you will no longer be able to do what you want, when you want - your entire life will cease to revolve around the two of you and will begin to revolve around your child. That's my interpretation and I am sticking to it. Now, on to do my own online reading!

  3. You know, I'm not religious, and I'm not superstitious yet (knock wood! heheheh.) but sometimes, I think exercises like this can offer little bits of truth in a package that we can more easily recognize or accept.

Not sure if that makes sense.

I love fortune cookies, not because I believe that Steve - my guy at the local noodle shop - is the hand of god who controls my destiny based on which cookie he hands me out of the big bin, but because every so often a fortune will make me examine my life in a different way.

And in that light, I'd say this is an AWESOME tarot reading - lots to think about, lots of stuff in there to prove or disprove in your own mind. Have fun with it!

  4. P.S. Couldn't help myself. Clicked the link, picked the card. This is what I got:

"You are being challenged by overflowing abundance and fertility, to the point that it may feel overwhelming or chaotic. You may be pregnant with so many new creations that you are having trouble focusing on just one..."

    Um, not so much.

I guess I'd have to say, on further reflection, step away from the cards...

  5. I think it can be fun, but when you are vulnerable to wanting answers in an unanswerable set of questions, it can really mess with your mind.

  6. Don't know how to interpret Tarot cards and ditto on the pretty scientific mindset (and training).

I do use I Ching on a somewhat regular basis and it is somewhat of the same concept. I use it to give myself a different way of looking at a situation. Oddly enough, the results often seem to reference my mindset of the moment.

Have fun though and take the readings with a grain of salt.

  7. I think infertility makes us superstitious a little bit right. I don't know how you think about defending while on stims. I have to admit I took a bunch of xanax before my actual defense so that I can't remember it now. That drug has the opposite impact than being hopped up on FSH with an estrogen level through the roof. :)

I am hoping the death card is because you and Will will have to learn to live as a family of 3 or 4 rather than 2. Death of your carefree (HA!) days as just a couple! That would be my happy marketing spin.
