Sisters

My sister was here this weekend for a visit and it was lovely one-on-one time (Will is in Europe for work this week). She and I are very alike from our looks, to our mannerisms, to our sense of humor. We look so similar that people comment on it, immediately recognizing the relation. Even here in NYC, where no one comments on anything, two people this weekend said, "That must be your sister! She looks SO much like you!" And she does. And I am grateful for this connection. She is much younger than me (8 years), which makes this even more flattering.

Something about having my sister with me all weekend was so centering, so healing. We spent the weekend laughing, talking, sharing. Having her here was like a breath of fresh air after not breathing for far too long.

The geneticist and I are playing phone tag but hopefully will catch up later today, and tomorrow, I am scheduled to have part of my endometrium removed for the Endometrial Function Test. So the quest continues, but for once this weekend, it felt like I could maintain the right perspective, and not be consumed. I only hope I can hang onto this newfound sanity.

Thank goodness for little sisters. I am so glad she's in my life.

  1. It sounds like turbo girlfriend time--I have a relatioonship like this with a cousin, and it is always such a centering experience to spend time with her. I'm so glad she was there!

  2. Sisters really are great. My sister came and took care of me during our IVF1 this summer since my husband was gone. There's something to be said about being friends with someone who knows you like a sister does.

  3. Yay for sisters!
If you would like some extra information about CGH/microarray, you can visit the Colorado board at IVF connections. (I have not done CGH but will be and am pushing my few little nice embryos to blast in order to do it after three failed IVFs). The women there are keeping a running table of CGH results.
Perhaps you already knew about the board, in which case I will gracefully leave...

  4. I am happy to hear you had a good weekend with your sis. It is so nice when you have a sis you are close with. People say that about my sister and I too. A few times people have asked us if we are twins. I am 5 years older so I think that is good for me. :)

  5. Sisters are awesome! I couldn't live without mine, that's for sure. People always mistake us for twins, of course I'm quick to point out that she's OLDER :)

Glad you had a nice time!

  6. I am so glad you had a good weekend with your sister! I will have to say I can't wait until my sister is done with college so she has time to hang out again. My sister and I are seven years apart and people always tell us how much we look alike. I always take it as a compliment as I am 7 years older...I am not sure what she thinks about it though:)
I can't wait to hear what the doctor has to report back to you.

  7. I only have older sisters and if your relationship is anything like the ones I have with mine, she is so glad to have you in her life too.

It seems you were able to get a little of yourself back this weekend. I only hope this continues for you.

  9. It sounds like an awesome weekend. I have a little sis too, quite a bit younger (17 years). We're finally at an age were we can relate as adults (38 and 21), instead of as a more parental relationship. And I do have to say, she's one of my favorite people with which to hang out.

Like you, more than any other family member, we look the most alike, act alike, laugh the same. And if you think you feel complimented when people look at you and immediately say "You must be sisters!", you can imagine how much I love it! ;) I'm just waiting for the painful day when someone asks me if I'm her mom, ouch.

I also have an older sister, only 18 months older, and it's a much different relationship. I have to say, I'm a much better big sister than she was, though maybe we were just too close in age. Either way, yes, little sisters rock on!

  10. Sisters are the best, aren't they? I wish mine lived closer to me. She's one of the few people who "gets" me. Glad you had a nice girls weekend. Hopefully that recharged you a bit from the shit you've been dealing with. Take care.

  12. It warms my heart to hear about sisters who are so close even though not in age. If my daughter does ever get a sibling, she will be so much older that I worry it won't be a special relationship.

Good luck with everything else, and look for me in the comments.
