Day 3 report

I finally reached one of the embryology elves on the phone today and got an update, although they were a little vague on the details. These folks are hard to pin down this time around!

Apparently 17 of the 18 embryos that fertilized are still in the running and "most of those" (??) are 6-8 cells and grade 3+ to 4 grade quality. Four are less good quality (3 or 3- grade). The embryologist I spoke to didn't say how many of the embryos are less than 6 cells (but hopefully not many!)

None of the three immature embryos matured in vitro. Which I wouldn't care so much about except that in IVF #6, our one blast that came from an in vitro matured egg was our "most" normally developing, chromosomally normal embryo, so I was really rooting for those immature ones. Ah well.

Next info will come on Friday (day 7), when things are all over. Gulp. They promised me they will try to culture to day 7 if the embryos aren't at blast stage yet but are still dividing. Here's hoping they remember!

This is where the waiting gets harder for me. Our embryos tend to look great at the day 3 stage and then fall off a cliff between day 3 and day 5-6.

I will try to remain in my zen place. Nothing to do now except wait. Wait and hope for the best.

Anxiously,

Mo

  2. That is a great report with all of the 3+ and 4-graded embies! Our embryos pooped out between Days 3-5 as well, so I understand your anxiety. I'm hoping that this cycle will prove differently!

  3. That is a great report! I know the big one is still to come, but I'm really hoping that with such a stunning report today means that Friday will be just as wonderful! I'll be thinking of your embies willing them to grow and mature normally!

  4. Yes, that is a great report, especially with so many between 6 and 8 cells. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that most of them keep chugging along to make it to blast. I also have a history of them falling apart after Day 3 (and indeed this time none of them made it for me), so I know that stressful feeling. But with so many to start with, I feel good about you making some good blasts!

  7. Zen is good and you have a lot of good news coming out of this cycle thus far.

Try to focus on one day at a time, one piece of the puzzle at a time.

Here is hoping the lion's share continue to divide, divide, divide!

  17. That's a really good Day 3 report, I am so hoping they continue to divide and you will have an awesome Day 5 report. I know, waiting sucks, but hopefully you will get good news at the end!

  19. All the news sounds very, very good so far. And here's a gentle reminder for Dr Mo- correlation does not imply causation. Those 3 in vitro matured embies may have been the best of the bunch in cycle 6, but that doesn't mean that you won't get some completely rockin' ones from this cycle even without the 3 they tried to mature this time. Wishing you lots more zen.

  21. That sounds like a very good report overall, though I understand the cautious feelings given the past day 5-6 issues. I'm hoping this cycle breaks the mold and you get a fantastic report on Friday.

Oh, and "embryology elves" - love that!

  24. We've never had good quality embryos. It's great that so many fertilized and that most of them seem to be doing well. I pray that at least a few of them will surprise you genetically and be optimal. I will be stalking your blog tomorrow for the day 7 report!
