If only they made this in my size

Here we are at 31 weeks, 3 days! Yay! Unbelievable! And my bladder has never felt more full. Things changed maybe a couple of weeks ago to where I began to miss what had become the feeling that I must pee every hour. I progressed to something new.

Now sometimes when I am walking, Magpie shifts herself and I am left thinking not that I need to pee, but that I am going to pee, right there on the sidewalk, or in the street, wherever I happen to be. This can happen a mere moments after I have just gone to the bathroom, and it is intense and feels like I will lose control. So far it hasn't happened, but honestly, I'm expecting to pee all over myself one of these days.

If only there were a "Mama's Carry Potty" I could purchase that would allow me to just plop down wherever I am and relieve myself (yes, I am losing my dignity rapidly at this point). I'd be happy to schlep it around with me. I would choose one in black, to match many of my outfits and to give me an urban sophisticated look. I would carry it with pride. And relief.

Instead, I have been left wondering, Who will be in diapers first, me or Magpie? I think it really may be a close call.

  1. This made me laugh out loud...literally!

I remember those last few weeks of pregnancy when I would sport a Poise pad for just such occurences. Fun times.

When will you post your belly pic my dear?

  2. oh I do remember that....i felt like I had just emptied my bladder and within seconds I'd feel like I was going to explode....I think you should invent the mommy carry potty....think of how many pregnant women out there would thank you for your ingenuity!!!

  3. Snort. Been there. Remember that. Honestly, I think for the rest of my life I will mentally define the word "relief" as the way it felt when I had my first post-partum pee. Not only was there no baby jumping on my bladder before during & after, but I was also getting rid of all the water I'd been carrying around in my ankles and fingers. It had been so long since I'd peed more than, oh, three drops at a time that, well, it just felt fantastic.

Believe me, the first nice, long, satisfying, non-painful pee post Magpie's birth is going to rock your world. Til then, just grimace and bear the constant need to tinkle. (And yeah, poise pads are not the worst idea ever!)

31 weeks, my friend. How marvelous this is!

  4. And here you thought that after getting pregnant you wouldn't need feminine napkins for a good long time...

  5. Lauging over here - but with you - not at you! Welcome to the third trimester! I was so excited not to have to wear pads or tampons for a while when I became pregnant with my son - boy was I wrong! I think it was around 34 weeks or so, I started "leaking" when I laughed, coughed, sneezed and sometimes, just when I walked up stairs! So I had to wear pads to avoid any embarassing mishaps!

  6. Yup, it doesn't go away right after delivery either, sigh...I remember I had wanted to go back to the hospital for those "hospital underwear" for these issues, DH just asked why I didn't want to buy depends???? yeah, but it will get better!!!

  7. I agree with sprogblogger - the best relief was actually being about to empty my bladder and feel RELIEF after doing so!

  8. Ha! Just don't bend down to pick something up when you're feeling like that. YOU WILL LEAK! Oh, and when my water broke I really wasn't sure if it was amniotic fluid or pee. Delightful. Pregnancy is just magical. ;-)

  9. 31 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with sprogblogger. Once she's here, you will pee like Tom Hanks in League of Our Own and it will be good, oh so good. They put a cup in the hospital toilet to make sure I was peeing enough, and I overflowed it each time.

A poise pad is good mental security, though, as is a puppy pad on the bed for bed wetting or water breaking (in a couple of months).

  10. my youngest is 9 weeks and i am still thankful every time i pee to be peeing normal again. I never actually peed myself while pregnant... but there were a few times at work (I am a pharmacist) where I had to stop in my tracks and hold still and consciously make an effort not to pee my pants. That will get a few looks from people.

  11. YAY for 31 weeks, you are almost there! Sorry to say but the peeing gets worse, it did for me anyways! Glad things are going well.

  12. Just wait until after she's born. It gets worse. As in when you have to go, you HAVE to go. Like NOW. LOL!

31 weeks?! You are only a couple of months away!

  13. I feel the exact same way! But my favorite part is when I do go its like a spit of pee. I hope it does not get worse these last 8 weeks for you.

  14. I'm so happy for you! :) Just had my 1st baby at 42 after 3 early mc's & I haven't been able to keep up with your posts. Can't believe you are 60 days away from meeting Magpie!!! Congrats MO - you're beating the odds & that's encouragement for all of us on the fertility train! :)

  15. Too funny! and this is why pregnant women sometimes wear panty liners. 31 weeks. Just wow.

  16. Haha! Hey, that's actually kind of a cool potty! Maybe get it, and then you'll have one for Magpie later. ;)

    I remember that shifting thing!
I wore panty liners when I went in public. Ten pounds of baby and then all of their "stuff", amniotic fluid, sac, placenta... it adds up.

SO excited for you!!! 31 weeks is AWESOME!

  17. Magpie is going to get bigger (more crowding in the bladder area), stronger (more forceful kicks/punches to your bladder), heavier (weight on the bladder), etc. Laughing, sneezing, coughing, bouncing- all caused leaks for me, but there was never more than a liner could handle. It only seems like you're "peeing." It's really just a tiny leak.

Rather than spend the next 9 weeks sitting on your mommy potty, I recommend liners, poise pads, or whatever best suits your volume (which, again, is likely less than you think it is).

    31 weeks. Hurray!!

  18. Plop down, yeah right. You'd never get back up.

Poise pads are your friend. Their generic equivalents are your friends. Even if you never have an accident, they'll be your friends.

  19. Congrats on 31 weeks!! I'm praying for at least 7 or 8 more :)

as for the intensity to pee ... have your Dr do a urinalysis to make sure it isn't a UTI. Very common in late pregnancy and it makes you want to die to pee. Baby shifting can do that too, but when there is an instant intensity it's possible your dealing with a UTI.

  20. Ha! The worst for me was needing to sneeze and feeling a little leak-- I echo everyone else; Poise pads or some other protection helped me not embarrass myself. Unfortunately there are still times if my bladder is especially full that a sneeze will still 'spring a leak', but I'm sure that you're more consistent doing your Kegels than I was.

Yay for less than 2 months to guess date! So excited for you and for your lovely pink potty, even if it's only a theoretical one.

I would also love to see a bump update... I'm sure that you're rockin' it!

  22. When I was pregnant, I peed my pants at work one day. Luckily, I am an OB nurse. Everybody understood. And fresh scrubs (and sexy mesh undies complete with a pad) were available just steps away. Pregnancy. It's not for the faint of heart ;-)

  23. This post actually made me get alittle weepy - how wonderful that you get to experience the universal effects of being 31 weeks pregnant! Looking forward to more stories - about being 36 weeks pregnant and 40 weeks pregnant and the arrival of Magpie :-)

  25. You crack me up!!! I never had those urges thankfully. Sorry you have to deal with that. I'd still it and just say you are stocking up early! LOL

I've been gone forever, but had to come check on you:). Glad to hear that things are going well!

  27. Update please! I'm getting nervous. Any chance you want to do a quick daily update from here on out? Just an "all good" a day would put my mind at ease!
