I hereby begin a weekly attempt to list a few of the things I am grateful for. It is easy while in the doldrums of infertility to lose perspective and forget that there are many things going just fine and even better than fine, if I could only lift my head up long enough to notice. So herewith, I will make a conscious and consistent effort to remember the multiple people, places, and aspects of life that I am grateful for (Concept adapted, er...ok, stolen, with thanks, from Sprogblogger and Sassymama).
1. My husband Will: He keeps me laughing with his silliness and good spirits, is always on my side (even when I'm not), and is a fantastic companion, best friend, lover, travel-mate, running partner, and chef, just to name a few of his strengths.
2. Living in NYC: About six months after I moved here, I was walking in Manhattan and looked UP and realized there is a whole other city up there in the sky, filled with beautiful architecture and endless possibilities. I love all that New York has to offer, I love the micro-neighborhoods each a few blocks long, I especially love the history and the sense of rootedness I feel here.
3. My work: I love my clinical work. Love getting to help make a difference in people's lives. Love having the privilege of hearing people's stories and assisting them to make sometimes dramatic, sometimes subtle, changes. It is humbling, on an almost-daily basis. And although I've been doing my clinical work for five years now, sometimes I still almost want to pinch myself because I can't believe that I am so lucky to get to do this. For a living.

Great idea, and I was just thinking the same thoughts today, I too love the city I live in (not as big as NYC) but has lots of similiar micro neighbourhoods and large buildings, and the lake. Great post and nice reminder to look at the great side of life
ReplyDeleteyes, yes, YES! Another blogger I read does daily "gratitudes" similar to this. And I've been thinking, you know, this is probably a very good exercise. But you did it. Actually wrote them down. Good for you! And you ARE a lucky girl. And I am too. And I need to remember that. I am going to look forward to your Sunday posts even more.
